Honda Taking Indians For A Ride With Jazz

red_honda_jazz

When we before posted prices of the Jazz to range from 6.5-6.8 lakhs here, we got quite alot of negative reactions. But Honda has priced it much more than what everyone expected them to. The Honda Jazz is priced at Rs. 7.43 lakh – the base version, increasing to Rs. 7.73 lakh – the midlevel Jazz Mode variant and going all the way to Rs. 7.78 lakh – the top end Jazz Active. Add to that all the above prices are ex-showroom, Mumbai and suddenly the Jazz misses the point completely.

At this fee point Honda has just confirmed that they will continue to fool Indian customers royally. While we agree the Jazz has space and a few features but a 1.2L petrol engine hatchback (which benefits from 4% excise duty exemption) at this fee point is simply insane.. Considering Honda has achieved significant localisation of 77% on the Jazz and imports the remaining parts from its operations in Thailand, the fee seems more unjustified. Honda you are no Mercedes and the premium is no way defensible. Neither is Honda service anything to talk about. Presume how much will the 1.5 litre Jazz cost? Perhaps 10 lakhs!!!!!!!

Fiat Cancels Bravo Launch In India

fiat_bravo_india

It is unlikely Fiat will launch the Bravo in India, due to the sudden downturn in the auto market. If launched, Bravo would have attracted nearly 100% import duty, just like its three-door hatchback Fiat 500 (which costs above Rs. 13 lakh) in India.  The Fiat Bravo and Fiat Brava are small family cars produced by the Italian automaker from 1995 to 2001. The name was revived – 2007 with an all-new replacement – the Stilo, the new version will use only the Bravo name and is not available with three doors.

Fiat and Tata Motors will not launch models in segments where they would have to compete with each other. But, they will jointly cooperate with each other and be interdependent on each other’s -te. While Tata Motors taps Fiat’s technology and support as well as the share of the numbers that the Linea and Grande Punto make. Furthermore, it also gets to manufacture cars in Fiat’s groundbreaking new Ranjangaon plant. Fiat on the other hand gets access to the Tata Motors’ huge sales and service distribution network in India.

Hybrid MPG: Toyota Prius vs. Nissan Altima vs. Honda Civic

Now that we are hearing more and more about fuel saving hybrid cars that run on batteries, we wanted to know how the top contenders equate in fuel utilization and value.   So we took at the look at the 3 Hybrids rated the most fuel effecient – 2009:  The 2009 Toyota Prius Hybrid, the 2009 Nissan Altima Hybrid and the 2009 Honda Civic Hybrid.

2009 Nissan Altima HybridAll of these figures are based on the assumption that you have driven the car at least 1500 miles to break it in. Assuming 1500 miles annually and gas prices at $2.44 per gallon, combined MPG (Miles Per Gallon) and the assumption that you refill when the tank is at 10% full.

The Toyota Prius Hybrid does the best in the city at a whopping 45 MPG, but breaks even when it comes to the highway at 45 MPG and again takes the lead in the combined gas mileage at 46 MPG. It should cost you about $1.33 to drive 25 miles, while only using only .54 of a gallon of gas. This car will cost about $794.00 to fill up on a yearly footing.

The Nissan Altima Hybrid does not do as well as either car, as it only gets 35 miles in the city and 33 on the highway. It only pulls a combined 34 MPG. To drive 25 miles would cost you $1.79 and only gets 612 miles on a tank of gas.
You’re looking at $1076.00 in once a year fuel cost based on 612 miles per tank fill up.

The Honda Civic Hybrid comes in about even with the Honda Prius with 40 miles in the city and 45 on the highway. It pulls a combined 42 MPG, it cost $1.45 to drive 25 miles, while only using .60 of a gallon.  To fill this car up it will cost you $43.92, while getting 612 miles off of a fill up, and a yearly fuel cost of $871.00.
